Skiable area (the North American convention) and piste kilometres (the European one) measure different things and do not convert, so ranking on either alone penalises half the world. This board ranks on a composite expressed as equivalent piste kilometres, using conversion factors measured from the 229 resorts where we hold both figures. Where a resort publishes both, we take the geometric mean — an inflated piste-km claim gets pulled down by the area, and a padded area gets pulled down by the piste km.
A Connected Ski Area (several towns on one lift network, like Trois Vallées or Portes du Soleil) counts as a single entry here — not once per town — since they all share the same terrain, season, snow and vertical. Click through to explore its individual towns.
