Via Lattea — the Milky Way — is a cross-border network spanning Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx, Claviere and San Sicario in Italy and Montgenèvre in France, roughly 400km of piste split fairly evenly across beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain.
Sestriere sits highest and most purpose-built of the group, in a bowl toward the network's southern edge, with challenging pistes accessible right from the village and no shortage of mountain restaurants along the way.
Sauze d'Oulx is the area's liveliest base, long popular with British skiers for its après-ski as much as its skiing. Claviere and Montgenèvre sit either side of the France–Italy border and feel genuinely different from one another despite being lift-connected — Montgenèvre is the only French village in the network, with its own distinct character on the far side of the line. San Sicario and Cesana are the quiet, family-friendly end of the network, better suited to anyone who wants the same lift pass without Sauze d'Oulx's crowds. Pragelato, a little further from the core network, keeps a similarly quiet, low-key character.

Skiable terrain, annual snowfall and season length are shared across the whole connected area — the same value applies to every town below. Vertical drop is the one exception: it's measured from this area's highest lift-served point down to each specific town's own base elevation, so it genuinely varies depending which town you start skiing from — see each town's own page for its figure. On leaderboards, this area counts once, not once per town.
